Let's start off with a look at the boards in general.

Main is for topics that have to do with LOTR in general; basically, things that don't go on the other boards. OT (off topic) posts are better received here, but you will earn a bad reputation if you make too many.
Reading Room is for study and discussion of Tolkien's books, not just LOTR but also the Silmarillion (Sil), Unfinished Tales (UT), History of Middle Earth (HoME) and others. Spoiler tags are not needed in here since it's assumed you've read the work being discussed, so watch out.
Movie Discussion is for just that: discussion of the movies, effects, actors, plots, etc.
The Arena has wonderful comprehensive directions right on the page -- I'd suggest you read them.
Gaming is for fans/players of computer, card, and role-playing games.
Feedback is where you can ask a technical question or report something strange happening. Also, if you're testing out a new font/font color/footer picture/etc this is the place to put test posts. It's is not a very "fast" board and people don't check it much, so trying to start a conversation here may be a little vexing.

Most posters frequent more than one board -- as you can see from the screenshot, I am usually found on Main, RR or Movie. Because of this, "crossposting" (making the same post on more than one board at the same time) is unneccessary and unappreciated in most cases. Of course, if you don't get a satisfactory response to a question or post you can always try again once the post has dropped off the board.

It is important to note that the boards are not chat rooms. If you want to chat, try Barliman's or ask for instant messanger screen names.
